Marija Ana Oman, MD, Specialist in Ophthalmology, Medical Director of the Optomed Eye Care Center
She completed her medical studies in 1975 at the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana. Initially working as a general practitioner, she completed her specialization in ophthalmology at the Eye Hospital in Ljubljana in 1990. She began her work at the Škofja Loka Community Health Center's eye clinic until opening her independent practice in 1997. From the very beginning, she guided the clinic with a vision where the patient always comes first. Through an individualized, comprehensive approach and continuous technological upgrades, she has provided patients with faster, more precise diagnostics and treatment. Her approach has played a key role in preserving or restoring sight for many individuals. In addition to her years of experience and professional expertise, she is distinguished by extraordinary warmth and dedication to her work and patients. Her approach to practice forms the foundational vision and core values of the Optomed Eye Center.

Anja Kalinšek, MD, Specialist in Ophthalmology
She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 2012. A year later, after passing her professional exam, she began working at the Psychiatric Clinic, where she truly realized how closely physical and mental health are intertwined. She continued her career path in family medicine, further deepening her understanding of holistic patient care. However, her curiosity, precision, and desire for a field where technical skill and attention to detail enable immediate patient support ultimately led her to ophthalmology. She completed her specialization at the Eye Hospital in Ljubljana in 2022, and in the same year, passed the European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma examination (FEBO). In her work, she is distinguished by precision, a calm approach, and genuine care for people. She believes a good examination is more than just a diagnosis—it is also a conversation, understanding, and a sense of reassurance that the patient takes home with them.

Špela Markelj, MD, Assistant, Specialist in Ophthalmology

She pursued further professional training in the United States (Boston Children’s Hospital) and the United Kingdom (Great North Children’s Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne), gaining valuable experience in modern approaches to treating pediatric eye diseases. She is employed at the Eye Hospital in Ljubljana, focusing primarily on pediatric ophthalmology and retinal diseases. In her practice, she pays special attention to holistic patient care and building trust with children and their parents. She serves as a mentor to medical students and residents in pediatrics and ophthalmology, enthusiastically passing her knowledge on to younger generations. She is a member of the European and World Associations for Pediatric Ophthalmology (EPOS and WSPOS), the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA), and a board member of the Slovenian Ophthalmological Society.
